Alan Byrnes Health & Fitness Journey

We’re on our way! Alan Byrne will be training here in Lifegym over the next six weeks. His progress on his Health & Fitness Journey will be documented on local radio station, Dundalk FM and we will detail his progress here on a weekly basis

Alans Health & Fitness Journey; Day One; Assessment:

On day one I sat down with Alan and went through a lifestyle questionnaire. This involved a lifestyle analysis to find out what Alans starting point was. We explored areas such as Alans current and previous exercise habits, how his energy levels are, his sleep quality, injuries, joint pains, medication and medical status. We then discussed Alans goals; what he would like to achieve and why this is important to him. We did an assessment where we checked his weight, body fat, waist measurement, aerobic capacity, muscle endurance, flexibility and mobility. We also did a posture analysis

All this information allows me to write a personalised programme for Alan. I now know what exercises and programme design will work best for him. This allows me to decide on what exercises are best and sometimes more importantly, what exercises, if any, we should avoid for now

We also went through Alans current nutrition habits in detail. This allows me to write Alan a Nutrition plan based on his goals. I would like to point out that I do not do severe calorie restricted diets as these are counter productive in the long run. It is rather a healthy eating plan where we are nourishing the body and keeping it strong and energetic. This is the best way of burning body fat and getting into good health and shape

I will now design a training plan for Alan based on his goals of weight loss and improved energy, flexibility / mobility

Alan is currently 14 stone 11lbs with a body fat of 39.8% and a waistline measurement of 43.5″. He is 5′ 7″ tall, age 57

His target weight is 12 Stone to 13 stone 1lbs with a body fat in the range of 26 to 32%

On Alans next visit, we will do day one of his training programme and his give him his personalised Nutrition Plan…watch this space for weekly updates!
